Overview
SOMA is a live movement installation designed to be experienced from within rather than observed from a distance. The work invites audiences to move through the space alongside the performers, blurring the line between viewer and participant. Through repetition, breath, and spatial awareness, SOMA examines how the body stores memory and responds to proximity.
About the Work
Created as a site-responsive piece, SOMA unfolds without a fixed beginning or end. Movement loops and evolves as audience members navigate the space, encountering moments of stillness, contact, and subtle transformation. The choreography prioritizes sensation over spectacle, encouraging viewers to notice their own physical presence as part of the experience.
Sound and lighting shift gradually throughout the performance, reinforcing a sense of immersion and continuity. Rather than directing attention to a single focal point, the work allows meaning to emerge through proximity, timing, and shared awareness.
My Role
I choreographed and performed SOMA, shaping both the movement language and the spatial structure of the installation. I worked closely with the creative team to ensure the choreography responded organically to audience movement, light changes, and sound. The role required adaptability, presence, and a deep awareness of the environment in real time.
